Dietary Consultation

The Franklin Hospital Dietary Department serves meals to patients, visitors, employees.

Franklin Hospital Food Services Director Bryan McGill said, "My mission is simply to provide quality meals for our patients, visitors and employees."

"In addition to providing diet instructions for in-patients and outpatients, we provide a nutritious, low cost lunch to local senior citizens in our cafeteria. We also provide meals for our Senior Care program and cater in-house meetings and events," he said. The cafeteria is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Senior citizens can purchase lunch for $3. Carry outs are available. "We are proud of our food and make quality products," said McGill.

'I write the menus to capitalize on the food items geographically that I know people will eat," McGill said. "Almost everything is made-from-scratch cooking. For example, we bread the catfish fillets we serve by hand.

He and Dietitian Janet Porter attended classes together while acquiring degrees from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. McGill has a bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition Dietetics and has been employed at Franklin Hospital for approximately 13 years. He said the Dietary Department has nine employees, including McGill.

Fresh coffee, tea and ice water are available in the cafeteria 24 hours a day, as well as vending machines. Lunch is served 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
